Jess Silver
Poet/Writer
Jess Silver is 21 years of
age and lives in Thornhill, Ontario. She currently attends York
University, Glendon Campus, and is going to obtain her degree in
English in June 2011. Writing has always been Jess’ passion as she
has been doing it since she was very young, specifically writing
poetry. Last year her first book, Lake of Bottomless Waters
was published by Beret Days Press through The Ontario
Poetry Society. The book is an expression of her vivaciousness
and love of words. Jess is an outgoing individual who is always
seeking new opportunities whether to enrich her writing portfolio or
life experience. She loves to travel and build rapports with people
as her hope is to become a writer and use her aptitude as means for
not only success but to help others to understand and appreciate the
power and value of the written word.
Journalism has always been a
part of Jess’ life as she continually would seek opportunities to be
‘in the loop’, reading the newspaper and magazines and listening to
media broadcasts. The time at which its importance was truly evoked
was when she took a course in high school that taught the different
types of journalism and gave students the opportunity to experiment
with the different styles of writing and types of articles. Through
her own personal interest and love for experimentation with
different genres and styles of writing; Jess began to seek
opportunities to branch out and build on her skills. She has been
working as part of the FutuRéale family for over 2 years and
is proud to say that it has helped her appreciate journalistic
activity for both its thrills and the challenges that come with
working in a competitive industry like this one. Because of
FutuRéale’s fantastic staff and the versatility of the magazine,
Jess has been able to work with a variety of people and delve into
the unique types of articles that have helped to broaden her scope
of ideas and more importantly, her understanding of various angles
that are taken by the writer to help convey a story’s message.
As far as goals with
FutuRéale go, Jess has many as she continues to work and write
passionately as a part of the team. She hopes to build on her
portfolio; gaining more exposure with the different departments and
writers. She also is working towards challenging herself with the
different styles of journalistic writing and is always looking to
approach more controversial and unique stories in order to assert
her voice as a member and observer of society and its social
conditions. Writing for Jess is a means of expression as well as a
passion that she is looking to pursue as her career and so being a
part of the FutuRéale team, she is looking forward to having
a great time and to hopefully acquiring more skills that will help
her flourish both as an individual and more importantly as a writer
and journalist.
