Making it in High Heels Book Lunch
New Book Celebrated the Strength of Determined Women While Giving back to the community

By: Julia Pronin

Toronto, ON - A new book celebrates the strength and determination of women in the midst of adversity.

Burman Books will be launching Making it in High Heels on August 25, at C Lounge (456 Wellington Street West). The event begins at 7 and continues until 10, and will feature a Samba band, meet and greet with the book's writers and a draw for a $400 watch from Bulova. The book contains a beautiful collection of 40 short stories from young women, including supermodel Stacey Mckenzie and Degrassi: The Next Generation's Andrea Lewis, who have not only survived great adversity, but also emerged stronger than before. The stories convey a wide range of life experiences from breakups and parental divorces to rape and the death of loved ones. As in Andrea Pressburger's story which closes with the words "recognize yourself for the fabulous person that you are- exactly as you are and never be afraid to live your dream", each author closes with an affirmation for the reader to take away.

With 20% of profits being donated to StepStones for Youth, a local charity which provides young at-risk women a chance for a brighter future, Burman Books endeavors to stay true to the spirit of Making it in High Heels. Sanjay Burman, CEO of Burman Books has been involved in the industry since age 14, beginning in film and producing for CBC, he started Burman Books in order to publish books to teach others how to expand the power of their mind. Says Burman, "after reading a recent statistic showing that there was a 12% increase in the suicide rate of girls aged 16-18, I knew that I wanted to do something". But it wasn't until the suicide of a young woman very close to him that he was truly motivated to put this collection together. The result is a love letter to young women written by the same demographic, a declaration of hope for the future and a celebration of the power of each and every one of us.

Burman will be releasing his second book this Christmas, Do Everything They Tell You Not to Do If You Want to Succeed.
