Eagle Eye

By: Rochelle Joan Viegas

After attending the funeral of his twin brother, Jerry Shaw goes home to find his apartment full of boxes. He then gets a mysterious call from a woman who warns him that the FBI will be breaking into his house in a matter of seconds, and then advises him to evacuate his apartment as soon as he can. When Jerry fails to listen and faces the consequences, he realizes that the woman's tip was in fact true and he gets arrested. After being questioned by a police investigator, he's given a second chance for a clean escape. Jerry then realizes that the only way to get away from the FBI on his tail is if he follows the woman's instructions and listens to everything she says. Jerry is confused and puzzled especially because he has no involvement with the situation that he was dragged into.

Rachel Holloman is an independent, goal oriented single mother who has just sent her son away on a road trip to perform at a band recital held in Washington, DC. While she is out celebrating, she gets a mystifying call from a strange woman telling her that her son's train will be derailed if she does not follow orders. Rachel does not understand the reason for her involvement because she is a paralegal and sees no relationship between the two.

Coincidently enough, Rachel and Jerry's paths cross and they realize that they are facing the same problem. The woman, who turns out to be a computer named ARIA, helps them steer clear of any police involvement, and possesses the capability of controlling any electronic networked device such as cell phones, computers, traffic lights, etc. At first, Rachel and Jerry do not get along with each other and blame the other for the position they are in. Later on in the movie, we see how they put their differences aside and work together. They realize that they are both fighting for the same thing… to stay alive and to find out what's going on, and why it's happening.

The film had a very futuristic approach, especially with the part that technology played and how one computer had the potential of virtually controlling thousands of networked electronics from all around the world. At times, the movie seemed too superficial, mainly when ARIA can produce short circuits and control automated cranes that do precisely what she wants at the exact moment.

Eagle Eye starred Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Billy Bob Thornton, and was a thriller that constantly had the audience sitting on the edge of their seats. The movie ran 117 minutes long and was rated 14A due to violence and offensive language. The film was directed by D.J. Caruso, who has worked with LaBeouf in "Disturbia".

Overall, the movie was interesting and fascinating and kept the audience yearning for more. A great thriller with good action, just the right amount of suspense and bits of comedy thrown in, Eagle Eye is a movie worth watching.
