Journal Entry: Nuit Blanche Rochelle Joan Viegas Pulling an all-nighter always sounded fun to try out, but I figured I wouldn’t have anything to do while I waited for sunrise. Nuit Blanche was a perfect way to spend an entire night out and around. Since this was our first Nuit Blanche experience, my sister and I decided to go all out. We reserved a room at the Delta Chelsea and decided that after exploring the exhibitions, we could crash at the hotel. It was perfect since the hotel was located smack dab in Zone A. There were many different and creative exhibitions. Some were abstract, while others were exactly what they looked like; but each of them were strange, original and yet very imaginative. From all the exhibitions, my favorite one was “The Greatest Falls,”which was a performance and video Installation. I really enjoyed the idea that took place with the involvement of Superman putting out the fire on the tight rope over the Falls. It took communication and carefully planned timing in order to make the performance believable. I especially liked how all the exhibitions were set up in the different districts. For example, the financial district had a comedic video presentation called “Commerce Court,” which had a standup comedian in executive attire projected through the windows of important buildings. Similarly, the “Benefit of the Doubt” exhibit had a sculpture with the word “Honesty” displayed in lights. This exhibition was set up on Court Street near law offices. It was very busy throughout the night and it was difficult to view every single exhibition. Next year, I’ll know to plan my night much more carefully and in a way that will allow me to see as much as possible. All in all, Nuit Blanche was an amazing experience filled with different perspectives from many different people and cultures. I really enjoyed Nuit Blanche and will most likely be attending next year’s event. |
